Commercial EPCs (Energy Performance Certificates)
Following the EU Directive, the government introduced legislation stating that all commercial buildings, new and existing, whether tenanted or owner occupied, must have an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC).
The Certificate is designed to be familiar in appearance to that already used in the Retail electrical industry, as displayed on refrigerators, washing machines etc.
The Certificate is graded ‘A’ to ‘G’ representing the energy used per square metre of building area, ‘A’ being more efficient and ‘G’ being less efficient.
Since January 2009 an Energy Performance Certificate must be produced whenever a building is sold or let and is to be available as soon as the premises are marketed.
Most buildings will be affected, including:
Offices
Retail Units
Shops
Hotels
Industrial Buildings
Warehouses
Commercial Units
